Comments: Many years ago, when The Shakespeare Theatre was located at The Folger Library, they mounted a stage production of Shakespeare’s Richard III. The costume designer had this idea the characters would be wearing death masks at one point. Design and production started with the props people taking plaster casts of my face as a standard model for the masks. In the end though, the star of the show refused to wear a death mask so the concept was scratched. I got to keep the original casting though. It’s since yellowed with age and general issue grubbiness from being handled; so for this shot I set it up against a large, white piece of paper and “bleached”it in post.
